Last night was Back to School Night for the elementary school at ASM. Unlike most back-to-school events in America, that are parents only this one was for the kids as well. At 7 we arrived at the school and the kids were so excited to show us everything as well as play with all the other kids. It was a little chaotic with kids running around everywhere, but good to see them so excited at school! We went to Paolo's classroom first and met Ms. Dawson. He showed us all the things he has been working on and even read me the poem of the week (about llamas!). In Beatrice's class Mrs. Rallo told us that Beatrice was the teacher today and needed to show us what she has been learning on her own! She showed us all of her reading and writing work and around the class. At that point all the excitement took over and the kids sped off to the playground. The rest of the evening I spent running after Bea and her friends as they quickly (literally because they were running at full speed) gave me a tour of some of the other classrooms. We finally ended up in the gym where running was actually acceptable! I met their gym teacher, Miss Katie who is close to my age, from Long Island, and also new to Milan. She had wonderful things to say about the children and she suggested getting together sometime! In the gym we met up with Paolo and Gaia and then continued into the cafeteria for aperitivo.
It was a late night for the kids so as soon as we got home it was time for bed. Today we leave for Forte dei Marmi and will return on Sunday night!
